Cusco

So after lots of tangents and diversions, back to my South American travels (still have plenty to tell about my trip in Copenhagen too - oops.) After exploring Copacabana and Lake Titicaca and struggling with the altitude, we headed off to Cusco. Cusco is the hub for all things Machu Picchu-related but what I didn't know is that it is a pretty photogenic city too.

I rest my case.

It was the perfect city to recuperate after the rush and flurry of Machu Picchu, Cuzco is an incredibly walkable city. So obviously, we did the free walking tour which included the holy grail of the budget traveller: FREE FOOD. We had alpaca with gooseberry sauce, California rolls and some amazing falafel. It was so good, we went back there after the tour. My only gripe was the fact that there was relatively little Peruvian food featured as I wanted to find out about cusqueña cuisine. But I suppose, that's something I can go back to next time.

Do you see the snake?

We got our culture vulture on at the Museo Inka, an activity I usually avoid, however the museum was really interesting and there is even actual mummified Inkas, if that floats your boat.

I loved Cusco so much, that it was hard to leave. But the thought of finally Machu Picchu made leaving all the better!

Which is your favourite city to walk in?
